Clipper Great Republic 06/22/1951 Lockheed 049 Constellation(N88846)
Location: Near Sanoyea, Liberia 
Route: Accra – Monrovia

The plane crashed into a hill. The pilot descended below en route minimum altitude without knowing the aircraft’s position.

After taking off from Isle Grande Airport the crew had engine 
problems. The aircraft then crashed into the Atlantic Ocean. The ditching took place in turbulent seas.  The tail broke off on impact and the aircraft stayed afloat for only 3 minutes and sank.  The captains attempt to re-establish a climb without using all available power after a critical loss of  power in the No. 4 engine resulting in a nose-high altitude, loss of airspeed and settling of the aircraft to too low an altitude to effect a recovery.  
UPDATED INFORMATION: The facts, as established in subsequent legal proceedings, show that the pilot was exonerated and the faults turned out to be due to faulty engine parts/maintenance.

The flight crashed into the jungle about 887 nm NNW of Rio de Janeiro. Separation of the propeller blade leading to separation of the No. 2 engine due to highly unbalance forces, leading to the disintegration of the aircraft.

Route: Portland – Honolulu

The plane ditched into the Pacific Ocean after the No. 3 engine propeller broke away causing severe control difficulties. The plane sank after 20 minutes.

Clipper Sovereign of the Sky 10/16/1956 Boeing Stratocruiser(N90943)
Location: Over the Pacific Ocean 
Route: San Francisco – Honolulu

The aircraft ditched into the Pacific Ocean while on a flight from San Francisco to Honolulu after losing the No. 1 and then the No. 4 engine. The aircraft circled around and landed in the water near a USCG weather ship. 

Clipper Romance of the Skies11/09/1957 Boeing – 377 Stratocruiser(N90944)
Location: 900 miles E of Honolulu, Hawaii, Pacific Ocean    
Time: 16:30           Route: San Francisco – Honolulu

The aircraft disappeared mid-way on a flight between San Francisco and Honolulu. Wreckage was found 940 miles NE of Honolulu 5 days later. Unable to determine the cause. Possible in-flight fire. There was evidence of carbon monoxide in the cabin.

A hard landing in heavy rain and gusty winds at Manila caused the collapse of the right main landing gear. A prop broke off the No. 3 engine, penetrated the cabin and killed one passenger.

Clipper Tradewind 12/08/1963 Boeing B-707-121(N709PA)
Location: Elkton, Maryland        Time: 20:59  
Route: Washington – Philadelphia

The airliner was on a flight from Baltimore to Philadelphia. The aircraft was in a holding pattern along with 5 other planes when the control tower received a Mayday message. The plane was seen going down in flames. Lightning induced ignition of fuel tank vapors. Within two weeks after the accident, the FAA ordered lightning discharge wicks to be installed on all commercial jet airliners.

The aircraft landed safely at Travis Air Force Base after an engine turbine disintegrated and one-third of the wing was lost after just taking off from San Francisco International Airport. As the passengers viewed the plane landing that was going to take them back to San Francisco, the nose gear collapsed.

Crashed into the Chances Peak mountains while descending for landing without determining position.

Struck a tree 1128m short of the Calcutta runway during a visual approach in rainy weather.

Clipper Malay 12/12/1968 Boeing B-707-321B(N494PA)
Location: Near Caracas, Venezuela        Time: 22:02
Flight: 217 
Route: New York City – Caracas AC 
Year of Delivery: 1968

En route from New York City the airliner crashed in the Caribbean sea and exploded while descending for a landing at Maiquetia Airport. Possible sensory illusion produced by the town lights. 

Clipper Blackhawk12/13/1969 Boeing B-747(N732PA)
Location: Renton, Washington
No Fatalities.
The plane crashed short of the runway during a landing attempt.

Clipper Star King 1969 Boeing 707-321B(N892PA)
Location: Sydney Australia – Kingsford-Smith International 
No Fatalities
Attempted an aborted take-off after striking birds at about V1. The aircraft over ran Runway 34, tore off the nose and left main gears and broke away Number 2 engine. The investigation also revealed that the aircraft was overloaded.
