The Boeing 727-100 first
flew February 9, 1963 and went into
service February 1964.
Pan Am ordered 25 B727-121s on
February 1, 1965 at $4,110,000 each which was quite an
investment at the time but a valuable
purchase.
The 727 replaced the DC-6B.
After Pan Am’s purchase of
National Airlines in 1980, they now had a combined fleet of 97 727s.
